3. Steven Gerrard (England)
‘Captain, Leader, Legend’ – Three words that describe the ex-Liverpool player. It’s a daunting task to find any player who fit all these three adjectives unless you are familiar with the name Steven George Gerrard. When all the star-studded players switch between clubs who promise them exotic offers he stood with his team even when the club was sliding through the pathway laid with pebbles and thorns. He has won everything with Liverpool except for the most desired English Premier League medal (Let us not put forth the ‘Slip’ here). His tally of 120 goals and 68 assists from 504 games will last forever in the memory every true fan of the game.
2004-2009 was the period of his peak form. His partnership with Fernando Torres was one of the deadliest duo EPL has ever see. He initiated the stunning comeback against AC Milan in 2005 UCL Final. A later equalizer against Westham United in 2006 FA cup final which was like a dagger penetrating through the hearts of Hammers. A late resurgence along with the likes of Luiz Suarez and Daniel Sturridge went in vain.
